How to Become a Leader

Welcome!

On behalf of the Rialto Scouting units, we welcome you to become an adult volunteer within our units to help our youth. The most important thing to remember is that this is all for the youth which is why our process is stringent.

Step One: Come to a Meeting

While we love it when our adults become an adult volunteer, there are many unique positions that an adult can hold. Meeting with the Committee Chair of the unit ensures that we find the best possible niche for you to fill based on skills and interests.

Step Two: Mandated Reporter Training

Due to California law AB506, all of our adult volunteers are required to have a mandated reporter training done. When this two hour training is finished, please upload the certificate to the California Inland Empire Council upload page.

Step Three: Background Check Permissions

Further compliance to the AB506 law requires the consent to a background check run by Scouting America and the California Inland Empire Council.

Step Four: Fingerprinting

After the mandated reporter training and consent for a background check filled out, please contact us to find a Live Scan location and to obtain the BCIA 8016 form necessary to complete the fingerprinting process.

Step Five: Contact Council

Please email the completed BCIA 8016 and the background check form to the council registrar Cynthia Ruiz at cynthia.ruiz@scouting.org to provide the council with the necessary information.

Step Five: Youth Protection Training (YPT)

Due to Scouting America policy, anyone who is 18+ is required to complete the Youth Protection Training every year. This is a training tailored specifically to the Scouting America program to ensure our youth stay safe. Afterwards, print out the certificate of completion to hand in with the completed application.

Step Six: Adult Application

After you have completed the aforementioned steps, fill out the Scouting America Adult Application, available both online and in person, and return the completed application to the unit's Committee Chair for processing.
